WOODS- western Order of Druids

Prayers

The name 'prayers' is loosely given to these invocations, which can be seen to differ in a number of philosophical respects from the prayers used by many religions.

The Druids' Prayer

original form attributed to Iolo Morgannwg

Grant, O God and Goddess, Thy protection,
And in protection, strength,
And in strength, understanding,
And in understanding, knowledge,
And in knowledge, the knowledge of justice,
And in the knowledge of justice, the love of it,
And in that love, the love of all existences,
And in the love of all existences, the love of the God and Goddess
and all that is, for all life is sacred.

The Druid Vow

We swear, by peace and love, to stand
Heart to heart, and hand in hand.
Mark, O Spirits, and hear us now
Confirming this, our sacred vow.

The Western Order recites this three times, on the third repetition changing the last line to:
Confirming this, our most sacred vow.

The Call for Peace

This is shown on the right. In this form four directions are used. A different form, the Cry for Peace, is often used; this provides for three directions.

The Swordbearer holds up and half-draws the Sword, and demands "Is there Peace?" The Circle replies "There is Peace." This is repeated twice more, with a one-third turn deosil on the part of the Swordbearer each time. Finally the Swordbearer declares "Peace there is!" and sheaths the sword.
