Most of the 30 or so members of the Western Order live in or around Glstonbury, though two live in the USA and several more are Associate Members from other Orders.
We do not invite new members, because Druidry, as a philosophy, does not require the aggressive proselytisation associated with some religions. On the other hand, we never refuse new members except in rare cases where it is clear from the start that they ought to apply to another Order, or perhaps choose another path entirely.
We suggest that those living in the area who are interested in Druidry consult our list of associated Orders, because as the Pagan resurgence continues it becomes increasingly likely that they may find an Order closer to themselves than us.
There are four classes of membership:
Saplings, or provisional members, who remain in this class of membership for the traditional year and a day;
Resident Members, who form the majority of the Order and who live locally;
Associate Members, often representatives of neighbouring or associated Orders, who are not expected to attend WOODs events regularly (having in most cases events of their own to attend); and
International Members, who live outside the UK and are not expected to attend events at all, communicating with the Order mainly by e-mail.
There are four pages about joining our Order, which we suggest be read in succession:
May there be peace in the East
May there be peace in the South
May there be peace in the West
May there be peace in the North
May there be peace throughout
the whole world
